Paro | Thimpu | Punakha | Wangdi | Trongsa | Bhumtang

Day 01  : Arrive Delhi
wangdiUpon arrival you will be welcomed by our representative & transferred to hotel. Delhi - capital of modern India. Many dynasties and rulers have flourished on its regal soil over the last 3000 years. The legacy still survives in many monuments varying from the 13th century mausoleum of the Lodi Kings to the buildings of British India's imperial past like the Parliament House and the Presidential Estate. Overnight at Delhi.

Day 02 : Delhi - Paro
This morning we transfer to airport for flight to Paro. Upon arrival transfer to hotel and check in. Day is at leisure. Overnight at Paro.

Day 03  : Paro - Thimpu (70 kms)   
This morning visit to Ta Dzong - formerly a watchtower and now housing the National Museum. Stroll through the colourful market and enjoy a walk along the Paro River. Later drive to the Bhutanese capital of Thimphu and check in. Evening is free for leisure. Overnight at Thimpu.


Day 04 : In Thimpu
After breakfast proceed on city tour, visit the Memorial Chorten (a huge Stupa) built in memory of the third King of Bhutan, the handicrafts emporium where Bhutanese textiles are displayed, Tashichho Dzong - the main secretariat building, the National Library where a vast collection of ancient manuscripts are preserved and the painting and wood craft school. Overnight at Thimpu.


Day 05 : Thimpu - Wangdi (80 kms)
After breakfast drive Wangdi via Dochu La Pass. Enroute tour Punakha Dzong - a 17th century fortress lies between two rivers Phochu and Mochu meaning ‘Male River and Female River’. Continue your drive and check in. Overnight at Wangdi.

Day 06 : Wangdi - Trongsa - Bhumtang (200 kms)
Today drive crossing 3 passes over 3000 meters. The route offers magnificent views of the Himalayas and beautiful landscape through scattered hamlets and forest of rhododendron and pine.  Arrive Trongsa village - the town mainly consists of fresh Tibetan refugees but the most impressive of all is the Trongsa Dzong - a masterpiece of Bhutanese architecture built in 1647. The whole of eastern Bhutan was controlled from this fortress during the mid 17th century. Visitors are not allowed inside the Dzong. Continue drive to Bumthang, visit the Chume weaving center.  Overnight in Bumthang. 

Day 07: In Bhumtang
This morning visit to Kurje Lhakhang - regarded as one of the most sacred places in the kingdom. Continue to Jambey Lhakhang Temple, erected by Tibetan kings in the seventh century. This afternoon, see the ancient Buddhist wall paintings at Tamshing Lhakhang and visit Jakar Dzong, a former monastery now used as the administrative centre of the Bumthang valley and the regional monk body. Rest of the day is at leisure. Overnight at Bhumtang.


Day 08:Bhumtang - Wangdi (200 kms)

After breakfast drive to Wangdi. Enroute tour Gangtey / Phobijkha valley. Overnight at Wangdi.

Day 09:Wangdi - Paro (150 kms)
After breakfast drive to Paro and check in. Day is free for leisure in Paro.

Day 10: In Paro
Morning trek to Taktsang (Tiger’s Nest), the Cliffside monastery perched on a rocky ledge with a sheer drop of over 800 metres. The hike takes about four hours. Afternoon visit Rinpung Dzong, the administrative seat of the district of Paro containing a state monastic community of 200 monks. Evening is free for leisure. Overnight at Paro.

Day 11: Departure
Today we will transfer you to airport for your onward flight.



Notes : Hotel standards in Bhutan range from first class in Paro (available at a supplement) to reasonably comfortable in western Bhutan and more basic in central parts. The tour involves some long drives. Flights do not operate daily between Delhi and Paro. Visa is required for visiting Bhutan and we can assist in procuring the same, provided all details are advised at least 30 days prior to arrival.
